Emergency Supplies - For Use at Home
Food and Water
- Three-day supply of water: One gallon per
person, per day (2 quarts drinking, 2 quarts for food
preparation and sanitation) Store in non breakable (plastic)
containers.
- Three-day supply of non-perishable food:
Choose foods you like, are easy to fix with little water or
heating. Ready to eat canned meats, fish, fruits and
vegetables; canned or boxed juices, milk or other beverages, high energy snack foods, infant food, food for special
dietary needs, vitamins, comfort or stress foods.
- Non-electric can opener
- Mess kits or paper plates, cups, plastic
utensils
- Foil and plastic bags or storage
containers.

Basics Supplies at Home
- Flashlight or battery operated lantern
- Radio and extra batteries (use same size
batteries for both flashlight & radio, or an all-in-one
unit)
- Fire extinguisher
- Utility or Swiss-army knife
- Whistle, flare or signaling device
- Cash or travelers check & change (bank
and gas cards may not work if electricity is out)
- Special needs: INFANTS (diapers, formula,
bottles, powdered milk, medications)
ADULTS (medicines 3-5
day supply -always have on hand ) extra eye glasses, denture
needs,
extra hearing aid batteries, mobility aides (cane, walker, wheelchair &
supplies), oxygen, reachers, special padding
Tools for Clean-up and Repairs
- Shut-off wrench for gas & water
- Pliers, pry bar, hammer and nails,
utility knife or multi-use tool
- Plastic sheeting, duct tape
- Work gloves and work boots
- Safety goggles and dust mask
- Broom and shovel
Shelter & Protection
- Tent, plastic ground cover, rope
& stakes
- Sleeping bags or blankets
- Rain gear, thermal underwear, warm hat &
gloves (as needed for weather conditions)
- Sunglasses, sun hat and sunscreen (as
needed for weather conditions)
- Clothing, sturdy shoes, warm jackets,
(hooded sweatshirts great)
- Cots, pads, lawn chairs or loungers
Sanitation
- Plastic bucket with tight lid, camp
toilet or port-a-potty (Store all items in bucket)
- Disinfectant, liquid detergent, bleach
and medicine dropper for measuring bleach
- Plastic garbage bags and ties (large and
small zippered bags)
- Toilet paper, paper towels
- Towelettes, waterless hand cleaner
- Feminine and personal hygiene items
